FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER ATHLETES
AND COACHES

1. Our school has and implements a non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation and gender identity/expression and protects all participants (including coaches) from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
2. Our school has and implements an anti-bullying policy that includes sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
3. School anti-hazing policies include prohibitions on anti-LGBT activities.
4. Our school policy enables students to participate on sports team according to their gender identity.
5. All coaches, both full-time and part-time, receive information on non-discrimination and anti-bullying laws and policies, including information on LGBT students.
6. All coaches, both full-time and part-time, participate in staff development training about making athletics safe and respectful for LGBT students.
7. Students on school sports teams receive information about anti-bullying policies and non-discrimination laws that include sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
8. Parents/caregivers of students who participate on school sports teams receive information about anti-bullying policies and non-discrimination laws that include sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
9. The school has a policy governing appropriate spectator behavior at athletic events that specifically addresses anti-LGBT name-calling or anti-LGBT chants.
10. Team dress codes for travel and game days are gender-neutral.
11. Team uniforms are gender-neutral according to rule requirements of each sport.
12. All communications to, and programs for, parents/caregivers of athletes use inclusive language that is inclusive of diverse families, including those headed by LGBT parents.
13. School sports teams have taken the Team Respect Challenge (see sports.glsen.org for more information).
14. Safe Sports Space stickers are visible in locker rooms, coaches’ offices and other athletic spaces in the school (see sports.glsen.org for more information).
