Student Initiatives

Sports and physical education should be inclusive for everyone. But if your school isn’t you can take matters into your own hands! Students have the power to implement their own initiatives to make that goal a reality.

The Team Respect Challenge is one way. This challenge will show your school and others that your team will be leaders for respect – it’s a strong public team commitment to live the values of respect and inclusion for all team members, across differences such as race, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or religion.

You can also start a Safe Sports Space campaign in your school. You’ll find more information to make your school’s sports spaces welcoming and safe for every student on our resources page.

GLSEN may also be able to come to your school and consult on how to make your school athletic or physical education program more inclusive. GLSEN also conducts Changing the Game workshops in schools. If you’d like more information, contact us at sportsproject@glsen.org
